Welcome to second issue of Avatar Studio's electronic newsletter
called AVATAR TRACKSHEETS.  The leaves have almost changed color and
the Holiday Season is right around the corner.


1. AVATAR STUDIO WINS TEC AWARD

Avatar Studios has been honored with a TEC (Technical Excellence &
Creativity) Award for Outstanding Creative Achievement in the Record
Production / Album category at the 18th Annual TEC Awards ceremony
held on October 7, 2002 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles.
The award is in recognition of Avatar Studios' contribution to the
recording of Diana Krall's The Look of Love album produced by Tommy
LiPuma for Verve Music Group and engineered / mixed by Grammy Award
winner Al Schmitt.  The Look of Love recording was done in Avatar's
legendary Studio A, using the vintage Neve 8068 console.  Check out

2. NEW GEAR / INSTRUMENTS

=> Pyramix Virtual Studio now available!!
Developed and marketed by Merging Technologies, the Pyramix Virtual
Studio is a powerful and flexible digital audio workstation, which
integrates the functions of a digital audio mixing, effects
processing, hard disk recording and editing, and CD-R mastering.  The
Pyramix software runs on the firm's Mykerinos PCI board hardware.
Each board is capable of processing up to 64 channels of digital
audio, including 24 channels of digital I/O at 44.1 kHz, 12 channels
of 96 kHz, six channels at 192 kHz and four channels of DSD audio
recording and playback.  The Pyramix DAW is now available through
Avatar.  In combination with Sonoma and Genex available, Avatar is
your one-stop shop for your DSD recording needs.  Contact

3. CREATIVE COMMUNITY NEWS

=> Harvey Rosen joins Avatar as Director of Sales & Marketing
Music industry veteran Harvey Rosen has joined Avatar Studios in the
newly created position of Director of Sales and Marketing. Rosen will
spearhead marketing and business development, working to expand the
clientele and vertically integrate marketing opportunities for the
studio.  With a long and distinguished industry career, Rosen has
served as Director of Sales Administration for PolyGram Distribution,
Director of Marketing for PolyGram Classics & Jazz, and National
Sales Director for Gramavision.  He has also worked as National Sales
Manager at MS Distributing, and also as National Sales Manager for
Fantasy Records.  Most recently, Rosen was National Sales Director
for Valley Entertainment in New York.   Some of the more notable
projects he helped to spearhead include Grease, Saturday Night Fever,
albums by Donna Summer, The Village People, and catalogues that
include Deutsche Grammophon, Philips, London Classical, Verve,
Original Jazz Classics and Island/Mango.  Contact

4. "HALL OF FAME" PHOTO

=> In this issue, we feature the photo of Island / Def Jam rock band
Sum 41 who spent several weeks recording their third album and
upcoming release, Does This Look Infected?, out November 26, produced
by Greig Nori.  The energetic and hard working band spent several
weeks in Studio A tracking for that big, classic rock sound.  Greg
Gordon engineered the sessions assisted by Ross Petersen and Brian
Montgomery from Avatar.  Check out the photos at

5. SESSION NEWS

=> Legendary producer NILE RODGERS returned "home" to begin tracking
for Universal Canada artist SOUL DECISION.  Rich Hilton and Brian
Montgomery handled the Pro Tools system.

=> RCA's David Bendeth and engineer Ray Bardani recently were in
Studio D conducting 5.1 Surround playback sessions of the newly mixed
ELVIS PRESLEY tracks.

=> RCA group EVE 6 was recording their new album with producer Gregg
Wattenberg and engineers Chris Shaw and John Agniello.  Ross Petersen
assisted.

=> EPIC artist 3LW was in cutting vocals and mixing with Avatar
residents Full Force Productions.  Josh Wilber engineered with Peter
Doris assisting.

=> SHERYL CROW and the DIXIE CHICKS recently came in to re-record a
new version of their single "Landslide" with Sheryl Crow producing
and arranging.  Bob Brockman engineered with Aya Takemura and Peter
Doris assisting.

=> Producer extraordinaire Phil Ramone was in with new Concord artist
PETER CINCOTTI, cutting tracks with engineers Eric Schilling, Frank
Filipetti and Elliot Scheiner.  Aya Takemura assisted.

=> Telarc Records continue to make Studio C their home for hi-res
recording in the DSD format with such recent recordings by pianist
GEOFF KEEZER and newcomer HIROMI UEHARA.  Engineering the recordings
are Jack Renner and Michael Bishop, respectively.  Aya Takemura and
Peter Doris assisted these highly complex recording sessions.

=> Producer Ric Wake was in producing vocal sessions for the
soundtrack recording of CHICAGO for Miramax Films.  Dan Hetzel
engineered with Anthony Ruotolo assisting.

=> Pixar Animation Company continued voiceover sessions for their
upcoming animated features FINDING NEMO as well as their newest
production THE INCREDIBLES.

=> Producer / keyboardist / arranger Philippe Saisse, who recently
completed his entire new album at Avatar, was recently recording with
resident engineer Roy Hendrickson, for France's TV hit "POP STAR."
The winners of the American Idol-like series got to record with the
likes of NILE RODGERS, WILL LEE, and BASHIRI JOHNSON.  The entire
session was filmed for a behind-the-scenes television release.  Peter
Doris assisted.

=> Sample Surround Mixing Sessions
Avatar would like to support engineers who want to experiment and try
their hand in mixing in Surround.  If you are interested and a room

=> 5.1 Surround Sound Listening Event for Retailers held in Studio A
The DVD Entertainment Group, in association with NARM, hosted a DTS
Entertainment 5.1 Surround Sound listening party for retailers in the
New York area.  The event was held in the live room of Studio A to
listen to recent works released, such as Queen's A Night at the
Opera, in a Surround set up by DTS in a terrific, acoustically
controlled environment.  Avatar also hosted a listening party the
evening before for the proaudio engineering community to listen to
various Surround releases and talk to the DTS representatives.
Avatar's rooms have been used for other listening parties, showcases,
and live performance broadcasts.  If you have special needs like

8. ABOUT AVATAR STUDIOS

Avatar Studios, formerly known as Power Station, is a
33,000-square-foot multi-room facility on Manhattan's west side
dedicated to providing the highest possible quality audio recording
services to the recording industry. The studio houses four premier
recording rooms containing Neve 8068, two SSL 9000Js and a Neve VRP.
The four rooms are equipped with four ISDN lines per room and a
remote recording session can be set up at a moment's notice.  AVATAR
also has a Pro Tools editing suite available.
